Due to the ongoing debate
concerning the effect of wind on a boat with external gunwales,
Nord West has inverted them on our new drifter model. This
has created a very sleek, aerodynamic looking boat. Using
our existing low draft and highly stable hull design, the
displacement and interior room remain the same but overall
length is reduced to 14.9 ft. Coupled with enhanced
weight distribution, the result is a quick and responsive
boat with improved maneuverability. Although the main goal
of the inward gunwale was to reduce the effect of wind by
presenting a lower profile and removing the obstruction provided
by external gunwales, other advantages soon became apparent.
For example, the boat is easy to grab on to and walk through
or hold in your favorite fishing runs. Hard cased fly rod
holders can also be placed under the gunwale for storage.
And, flies and line will no longer get snagged on the gunwale
as they now easily slide over the side of the boat. Retail price: $ 5,960
