Nord West Composites Fiberglass Drift Boat was born in 1996 when French born owner Philippe Naudet decided to use his composites material experience to build Montana-Made fiberglass drift boat. Philippe's experiences as a two-time America’s cup team member, builder of several carbon fiber ocean racing boat and in charge of boat preparation for a three-time winner of the Race Around the World solo sailing event.

In 2001, Philippe designed an original, aerodynamic, sleek looking fly fishing drift boat that addressed the effect of the wind on a boat. Although the main goal of the inverted gunnel was to reduce the effect of the wind, other advantages soon became apparent.
